NOTD: Stormy Blue Water Marble + Tutorial

I'm trying - key word here being TRY, but doing well so far - to get back in the habit & schedule of posting right after I get home from work, as opposed to right before I go to bed.  The evening really goes smoother if I'm not trying to finish 5 different things at like 10pm LOL.

I miss doing water marbles ... For a while I was doing about 1 a week & I've really slipped off that pace - despite having a TON of ideas, I just haven't had time to play with polish & test colors to find out what works.  One combination I'd be sure would work totally didn't, and I think over the weekend or sometime soon I'm going to use them as an example & shoot a vid of them, so everyone can see even I have big fat fails =)

For this marble I used 2 coats of China Glaze White Cap as my base, then marbled with White Cap, First Mate & Sea Spray, all 3 from the Anchor's Away collection.  The overall look reminds me kind of water, ocean, stormy - they almost ended up as a swirl but I didn't want to have to dip each finger individually.  This entire manicure only took 4 cups:

My favorite nails were my left middle & ring, my right ring, and both thumbs:

Here's the tutorial:

  10. When do you pull off the tape? Do you wait for the polish to dry first, or do you do it right after you dip your fingers?

  14. Does the spread of the polish matter with brand? Like I use the nail polish brand LA Colors(from Dollar Tree), but it never spreads and I have to end up trashing everything. I've used room temp. water, too. What can I do?

  15. I love to see all your awesome manicures! You've inspired me to really try and stop biting my nails cause I want to be able to try your ideas for myself. I.ve got acrylics done to get me started and I'm having a ton of fun doing watermarbles and sponging! Thanks a lot for all your great tutorials!!

  16. I really enjoy ur tutorials. How do u put the tape on? What does it mean when the polish doesn't fan out when u add a drop to the water? Thanks

  18. ANON - I usually wait for the polish to dry, but you can do it while wet if you’re very careful =)

ANON - my water is also always filtered - other than that, you can use any brand but not every color works

DRKNSWT - I have a taping tutorial under the Tips & Tricks playlist =) not every color works or spreads out well, if you're using room temperature filtered water you just have to keep experimenting with different polish

  20. I really love water marbling. What I did was go get some cheap artificial nails and practice with them and different nail polishs. I think it really helped me learn. Have a whole cup of nails but practice really helped. I also use painters tape to tape my nails and that works really well and not expensive. I have learned how to tape so good that I have no clean up of nail or fingers off. Thanks for all the tips and ideas

  21. ANON - some of the colors I use are very old, but some are brand new - I always list them in the information box, or you can experiment to find your own colors that work =)
